Kristie Smith

A graduate of the University of Wyoming, Kristie Smith has 27 years of classroom experience teaching English, literature and writing to grades 7-12.  She created the “Lunch and Read” program at Niobrara County High School that was featured in the Casper Star Tribune in 2010.  In addition, she coached 3, back to back state winners in the Voice of Democracy essay competition, trained in Quantum Learning, implemented the Read 180 curriculum and was the Niobrara County District teacher of the year in 2006. In 2013, she retired from Niobrara County and began the educational consulting firm of Smeeds Reads. However, she missed the classroom and returned to teaching part time at Southeast High School in Yoder, WY.  Budget cuts in 2017 led to the elimination of the ½ time English teacher position. But, Kristie wasn’t quite finished with the classroom yet.  She accepted a full time job at Guernsey-Sunrise High School where she again implemented the Read 180 curriculum, was recognized as an outstanding educator in December 2017 and helped to coach the state winner of the American Dream Essay Contest in 2019. Currently, she is pursuing her Educational Leadership degree from Western Governors University. She is a mother; a wife; a partner in her husband’s trucking company, SR Express; a part-time ranch hand and an avid reader.
